Saturday July 5th the 95th Tour de France will begin in Brest, France and continue to Sunday July 27th finishing on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
There will be 21 stages that will cover a total distance of 3,500 kilometres or approximately 2,175 miles.
These 21 stages have the following profiles:
- 10 flat stages,
- 5 mountain stages,
- 4 medium mountain stages,
- 2 individual time-trial stages.
Those to watch:
Tour de France 2007 winners (L to R): Cadel Evans, Alberto Condtador, Levi Leipheimer

- Cadel Evans – The favorite to win the yellow jersey (the maillot jaune). Came in second place in 2007. Australian on Silence-Lotto team
- Alberto Condtador – 2007 Champion. Excluded from race.
- Levi Leipheimer – 3rd place finisher 2007. Excluded from race.
- Tom Boonen – Winner of the green jersey in 2007. Excluded from race.
- Alejandro Valverde – Spaniard who appears to be a second favorite to be the overall winner as long as there is no ‘day to forget’ in the mountains.
Unfortunately some great riders are excluded from the 2008 Tour because of drugs, performance and recreational as is the case with Tom Boonen. It would be nice to have a clean tour and maybe this will be the year.
Enjoy watching.
